THE TRAIL

The Hudson Valley Rail Trail is a Carry-In/Carry Out Trail. Anything you bring in, please take it out with you.

Motorized vehicles, alcoholic beverages, open fires, and camping are prohibited.

PARKING

Trail access parking can be found in the following areas for the Hudson Valley Rail Trail:

  • In the Hamlet of Highland at Commercial Avenue Extension

  • At the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Depot located at 101 New Paltz Road

  • At 75 & 100 (Two Parking lots) on Haviland Road

  • At Tony Williams Park located at Riverside Road

  • 371 New Paltz Road (Across from Highland Fire Department Station #2)

  • 650 Route 299 (Across the street from Lowe's) 

RESTROOMS

Public restrooms are located at the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Depot and Tony Williams Park. There are also restrooms located at the West Side Pavilion of the Walkway Over the Hudson.

SAFETY

Safety Rules for Cyclists

  • This is NOT a road

  • GO SLOW nearing pedestrians, pass in single file

  • When approaching from behind, shout out “on your 
    left” and/or ring bell

  • Always give such warning even if room to pass

  • Keep to RIGHT, no more two abreast

  • Bell required

Safety Rules for Pedestrians

  • ALLOW ROOM for faster users to pass

  • No more than two abreast

  • LOOK BEHIND you before passing or crossing

  • Keep to the right side of the trail.

  • Leash dogs – maximum 6’ leash length

  • Be watchful of your children

 

Trail Rules

  • According to the Town of Lloyd Local Law 2-1998

  • Open dawn to dusk

  • No littering - Carry in/carry out

  • Dogs must be leashed on a 6 foot or shorter leash

  • No motor vehicles except electric wheelchairs

  • No discharging of weapons on or across the trail

  • Alcoholic beverages prohibited

  • Respect private property signs - keep to trail

  • Take only photos. Leave only footprints
